<h2 class="heading hide-accessible">Summary</h2>

Plant science research in the Faculty of Biological Sciences at Leeds addresses fundamental biological mechanisms as related to plants and also addresses the global challenge of maintaining food supplies in the context of sustainable agriculture.

<h2 class="heading hide-accessible">Full description</h2>

<p>Research is focused in the <a href="http://www.plants.leeds.ac.uk/">Centre for Plant Sciences</a> which encompasses 14 academic staff from the Schools of Biology and Molecular and Cellular Biology.</p> <p>Research programmes range from the study of cellular mechanisms and gene regulation and activities in model systems (<em>Arabidopsis</em>, <em>Physcomitrella</em>) through ecophysiology of plant-microbe interactions and root-soil processes to the development of novel strategies for controlling the impacts of abiotic stresses and pests in a range of crop species. Our research themes include:</p> <h3><a href="https://biologicalsciences.leeds.ac.uk/plant-sciences/doc/plant-science-themes/page/1">Plant molecular genetics and developmental/cell biology</a></h3> <h3><a href="https://biologicalsciences.leeds.ac.uk/plant-sciences/doc/plant-science-themes/page/3">Crop science, genetics and physiology</a></h3> <h3><a href="https://biologicalsciences.leeds.ac.uk/plant-sciences/doc/plant-science-themes/page/2">Plant-soil-environment interaction</a></h3>
