Summary

The Applied Geophysics group focuses on the characterisation of the earth’s subsurface at a range of scales using a varied range of geophysical methods that find a diverse range of applications including, but not limited to, oil and gas exploration, approaches to long-term carbon sequestration in subsurface reservoirs, geo-archaeology, seeking novel sources of clean energy (e.g. geothermal).

We are a community of scientists developing geophysical theory and practice for the quantitative investigation of target sub-surfaces. These targets are truly diverse, ranging from understanding the detail of lab-scale samples through to crustal-scale structures that influence basin evolution.

Our community comprises a core of academic staff and post-doctoral researchers with a growing cohort of postgraduate researchers. We welcome enquiries from prospective postgraduate rearchers interested in a PhD in applied geophysics.

Useful links and further reading:

Research degrees within the School of Earth and Environment

Applied Geophysics group

School of Earth and Environment, Research and Innovation

Leeds Doctoral College

Our Doctoral College supports you throughout your postgraduate research journey.
