Summary

The gender question remains a fundamental indicator on the transformation of modern societies as it was in the historical periods. Issues of equality and segregation are relevant in the design of public buildings and spaces of the modern city that translate the societal ideals towards gender issues into spatial experiences and relationships. This project determines the ideological and social transformation in western societies through the analysis of the change in spatial system and patterns of accessibility, following its development over the past two centuries and until the present day. The man-women interaction within public buildings such as office, educational, or administrative spaces would help researchers to unravel the complexity of the way women engage with and react to the spatial systems and design of public services. This project could be context-specific or of global coverage while prospected researchers shall have in-depth knowledge and access to local groups’ individuals in the places used as case studies.
