This project aims to investigate crowd behaviours under emergencies. Crowd emergency and evacuation simulation has been a central topic in several fields including crowd simulation, design and safety. However, it is very difficult to do quantitative research on such behaviours due to the lack of data. On the other hand, it is too expensive and unethical to hire people and places to do such experiments.

The project is to build a virtual reality platform for crowd simulation and get data from human subject reactions in such circumstances for analysis and simulation.

The project is currently accepting PhD applications every year.

Formal applications for research degree study should be made online through the University's website. Please state clearly in the research information section that the research degree you wish to be considered for is 2D and 3D crowd steering analysis in virtual reality as well as Dr He Wang as your proposed supervisor.

If English is not your first language, you must provide evidence that you meet the University's minimum English language requirements (below).

We welcome applications from all suitably-qualified candidates, but UK black and minority ethnic (BME) researchers are currently under-represented in our Postgraduate Research community, and we would therefore particularly encourage applications from UK BME candidates. All scholarships will be awarded on the basis of merit.
