Leeds Doctoral Scholarships are available for UK/EU students for Session 2020/21 for study in the following Faculties - Arts, Humanities and Cultures, Biological Science, Leeds University Business School, Environment, Medicine and Health, Social Science. There are 2 scholarships available in each of the named Faculties. The fully funded research scholarships are available for 3 years for full-time and 5 years for part-time study.

<p><strong>Closing Date for Application forms 23:59 (UK time) Wednesday 1st April 2020</strong></p> <h4><br /> Duration of the Award</h4> <ul> <li> <p>Full-time (3 years) the award will be made for one year in the first instance and renewable for a further period of up to two years, subject to satisfactory academic progress.</p> </li> <li> <p>Part-time study (5 years)&nbsp;The award is tenable for 24 months (two calendar years) in the first instance and is renewable annually for a maximum period of five years subject to satisfactory academic progress.</p> </li> </ul> <h4>Funding</h4> <ul> <li> <p>The award will cover fees at the University of Leeds standard rate of fees.</p> </li> <li> <p>A maintenance grant at the standard UKRI rate of &pound;15,009&nbsp;for Session 2020/21</p> </li> </ul> <h4>Other Conditions</h4> <ul> <li> <p>Applicants must not have already been awarded or be currently studying for a doctoral degree&nbsp;</p> </li> <li> <p>Awards must be taken up by 1 October 2020</p> </li> <li> <p>The awards are available for new Postgraduate Researchers undertaking full-time or part-time research study leading to the degree of PhD. &nbsp;Students who are already registered for PhD research study are excluded&nbsp;from applying</p> </li> <li> <p>&nbsp;Applicants must live within a reasonable distance of the University of Leeds whilst in receipt of this Scholarship.</p> </li> </ul> <h4>Selection Process</h4> <ul> <li> <p>Each School selects a shortlist of applicants who they wish to nominate for the award. &nbsp;The Group on Scholarships, Studentships and Prizes selects the final list of awards based on academic merit and no other factors such as financial hardship are taken into account.</p> </li> </ul> <p>The University will publish the names of the successful applicants within the University and externally on the University website within 10 weeks of the relevant scholarship closing date.</p>

All scholarships will be awarded on the basis of merit.</em></p>

<h2 class="heading heading--sm">Entry requirements</h2>

Applicants must hold a First Degree at undergraduate level equivalent to at least a UK First Class Honours degree. Applicants should either have graduated with the appropriate First Degree or be in their final year of study. Candidates with a lower mark in their undergraduate degree will be considered if they have or are expected to receive a Distinction in a Masters programme relevant to their field of research, or if they can demonstrate relevant alternative experience (eg in industry, business or - for a practice-based PhD - in the creative arts)

<h2 class="heading heading--sm">English language requirements</h2>

The minimum English language entry requirement for research postgraduate research study is an IELTS of 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 in each component (reading, writing, listening and speaking) or equivalent. The test must be dated within two years of the start date of the course in order to be valid. Some schools and faculties have a higher requirement.
