These opportunities are part of the Discovery Medicine North Doctoral Training Partnership (DiMeN DTP), a diverse community of PhD students across the North of England researching the major health problems facing the world today. Our partner institutions (Universities of Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle and Sheffield) are internationally recognised as centres of research excellence and can offer you access to state-of the-art facilities to deliver high impact research.<br />

As part of the DTP, we offer bespoke training in key skills sought after in early career researchers, as well as opportunities to broaden your career horizons in a range of non-academic sectors.</p> <p>Being funded by the MRC means you can access additional funding for research placements, international training opportunities or internships in science policy, science communication and beyond. See how our current DiMeN students have benefited from this funding here.</p> <p>A full standard studentship consists of academic fees together with a maintenance grant paid at standard Research Council rates. UK applicants will be eligible for a full award paying tuition fees and maintenance. The MRC DiMeN award is open to both International and UK applicants who have obtained, or be about to obtain, at least a 2.1 honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.
The minimum English language entry requirement for research postgraduate research study with the Faculty of Biological Sciences is an IELTS of 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 in each component (reading, writing, listening and speaking) or equivalent. The test must be dated within two years of the start date of the course in order to be valid. Some schools and faculties have a higher requirement.<br /> <br /> The Faculty of Medicine and Health minimum requirements in IELTS tests for PhD, MSc, MPhil, MD are: British Council IELTS - score of 6.5 overall, with no element less than 6.0<br /> <br /> The Faculty of Medicine and Health minimum requirements in IELTS tests for the Professional Doctorate in Paediatric Dentistry and 4 year Medicine, Health and Human Disease Programme are: British Council IELTS - score of 7.0 overall, with no element less than 6.5
