A scholarship for Japanese mid-career professionals either admitted to, or currently enrolled in a master or PhD program outside of Japan in an area of study related to development, who are pursuing a career in international development. This scholarship will extend no more than two years and includes tuition, a monthly living stipend, air fare, and medical insurance.
<h2><strong>Next Call for Applications: February 17–April 18, 2025</strong></h2> <p><strong>Core Eligibility Criteria:</strong><br /> • Be a Japanese national;<br /> • Hold a bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree, earned at least 3 years prior to the application deadline date;<br /> • Prior to the application deadline, have at least 3 years of recent, full-time, paid employment acquired after receiving the first bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree;<br /> • Not be an Executive Director or alternate, staff, consultant of the World Bank Group or close relative or in-law of the aforementioned at the time of the application;<br /> • Not be employed by the Government of Japan or its related agencies at the time of application;<br /> • Not have received any scholarship funds from the Government of Japan for graduate studies;<br /> •At the time of the application submission, be either admitted unconditionally (except for financing) or currently enrolled full-time in a graduate program (master’s or PhD) outside of Japan in an area of<br /> study related to development or be currently employed full-time in development-related work pertaining directly to developing countries.</p>

Applicants to research degree programmes should normally have at least a first class or an upper second class British Bachelors Honours degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate discipline. The criteria for entry for some research degrees may be higher, for example, several faculties, also require a Masters degree. Applicants are advised to check with the relevant School prior to making an application. Applicants who are uncertain about the requirements for a particular research degree are advised to contact the School or Graduate School prior to making an application.
The minimum English language entry requirement for research postgraduate research study is an IELTS of 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 in each component (reading, writing, listening and speaking) or equivalent. The test must be dated within two years of the start date of the course in order to be valid. Some schools and faculties have a higher requirement.
