The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholarship offers a three-year leadership program designed to train Engaged Leaders, equipping doctoral candidates with the skills to translate their ideas into action, for the betterment of their communities, Canada, and the world.

<h2 class="heading hide-accessible"Full description</h2>

<ul> <li>Applicants must be in the process of completing a Master’s program (completed no later than summer 2025) or be in the first or second year of a doctoral program.</li> <li>The field of study is broadly related to the <strong>humanities or human sciences of direct relevance to the future of Canada.</strong></li> <li>The doctoral work must relate to at least one of the Foundation’s <strong><a href="https://www.trudeaufoundation.ca/four-founding-themes?_ga=2.68400595.319583555.1603115217-235004932.1576275413" target="_blank">Four Themes</a></strong>: Human Rights and Dignity; Responsible Citizenship; Canada and the World; People and their Natural Environment. </li> <li>Applicants do not need to be a doctoral student of a faculty or department normally associated with social sciences and humanities; applicants are welcome from engineering, business, health sciences and pure and applied sciences that can demonstrate how their research topic relates to one or more of the Foundation’s four themes.</li> <li>Applicants for the University of Leeds must be a Canadian Citizen – see FAQs for further information about eligibility and relevant disciplines - <a href="https://www.trudeaufoundation.ca/faq" target="_blank">https://www.trudeaufoundation.ca/faq</a></li> </ul>

<h2 class="heading">How to apply</h2>

<p>To apply for the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation scholarship you will need to register for an account on the Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation and complete the Foundation’s online application form at <a href="https://www.trudeaufoundation.ca/become-scholar" target="_blank">https://www.trudeaufoundation.ca/become-scholar</a>.  You will be asked to provide the name and email address of your referees, who will be asked to complete a reference via the Foundation’s application portal by 20 November 2024.  Application forms and completed references should be received by 4 pm EST on 25 November 2024.</p> <p><strong>Selection Process</strong></p> <p>All eligible applicants who submit a completed application form will go through a rigorous selection process.  Shortlisted applicants (Round One) will be contacted in January 2025 and invited to group interviews.  Finalists (Round Two) will be invited for individual interview in March 2025.  The outcome will be announced by the end of May 2025.</p> <p>Please note that an unsuccessful application for this scholarship does not exclude you from applying for other research study opportunities or scholarships offered by the University of Leeds.</p> <p><em>As an international research-intensive university, we welcome students from all walks of life and from across the world. <h2 class="heading heading--sm">Entry requirements</h2>

Applicants to research degree programmes should normally have at least a first class or an upper second class British Bachelors Honours degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate discipline. The criteria for entry for some research degrees may be higher, for example, several faculties, also require a Masters degree. Applicants are advised to check with the relevant School prior to making an application. Applicants who are uncertain about the requirements for a particular research degree are advised to contact the School or Graduate School prior to making an application.

<h2 class="heading heading--sm">English language requirements</h2>

The minimum English language entry requirement for research postgraduate research study is an IELTS of 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 in each component (reading, writing, listening and speaking) or equivalent. The test must be dated within two years of the start date of the course in order to be valid. Some schools and faculties have a higher requirement.
